Wall Colors and Selling Your Home
Have you noticed that the present trend in wall color is dark, bold and saturated? Home owners enjoy expressing themselves with these bold hues but once those home owners decide to move and put their home on the market, their creative expression then becomes a not so inviting decorative nightmare. New buyers can have mixed emotions about these dark hued paint colors. Not only can they make a room appear darker and smaller, they also can detract from the potential homeowner’s vision of how they would decorate the room.
Here are some simple redecorating tips for wall color when setting the stage for your newly listed house.
Pick neutral colors (beige, tan, variations of white): Potential buyers want to envision how their furniture will fit into the space. When people fall in love with a house, they start decorating it on the house tour.
Remember that you can still use color: Lights hues, sunny hues and pastels are very inviting especially in rooms that get a lot of sunshine. There is a wonderful Instagram that explains the different emotions that colors evoke.
Use a white wall as a backdrop: If you still want some bold color in the room, pick brightly hued or patterned furniture. This gives the buyer an idea of what can really pop when set against a white backdrop.
Take caution if you want to paint the ceiling. High ceilings are one thing that all buyers want and the higher the better. Painting a ceiling a different color than white can lower the height of the ceiling. If repainting is not an option for you, wall color can be offset by painting any trim a white or neutral color.
